Missing Link Resin - FAQs

Commonly-asked questions...

Tidbits of modeling arcane from masters recently down from their mountaintops..

(2 to the left are Bob Daykin and Jeff Ballard...aka, Burl Ives..from Motor City Resin Casters).

  1. Why resin cast?
  2. Resin is a cost-effective material used to make kits and parts to create, build or replace components in rare kits and promos. Without this, many projects would remain unfinished...or impossible.
  3. What is resin?
  4. Resin is a two-part liquid. When the components are mixed, they become urethane...a type of plastic not too different from styrene.
  5. What type of glue should I use with resin?
  6. "Super-Glues" (not for clear or chrome parts), and 5-minute epoxy are recommended.
  7. How should I prep resin pieces?
  8. Clean/prep with Westley's Bleach-White (found in auto supply stores). Soak up to 8 hours, then scrub with a soft toothbrush. DO NOT soak chrome. There is no prep recommended for chrome or clear parts.
  9. Is there a recommended type of primer?
  10. Prime with PlastiKote T-235, DupliColor or Tamiya.
  11. Is there recommended paint for resin?
  12. Enamels, laquers and acrylics will work well with our products. Simply follow label directions for your own safety and for best quality in the finished model.
  13. Is Jeff "light in the loafers?"
  14. There have been situations, indirect evidence, and unconfirmed reports that have brought both his "preference status" and his "man-card holder" status into doubt. Any outside confirmation of our concerns would be welcome. Just kidding folks. Jeff is a John Wayne-loving, steak-eating, wife-satisfying, non-poof. We're still now sure about his "man-card," though...
